REVIVE Series (Week 6) -The Ingredients for Revival (Worship)

Key Scripture: John 4:23-24 (NIV):

23 "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Revival: An awakening, a re-vitalisation, a return to a former glory.

Key Scripture: Psalm 95:1-2 (MSG)

1-2 "Come, let’s shout praises to God, raise the roof for the Rock who saved us! Let’s march into his presence singing praises, lifting the rafters with our hymns!"

Worship is an act that develops feelings for God, not a feeling for God that is expressed in an act of worship. Feelings are great liars. If Christians worshipped only when they felt like it, there would be precious little worship. We think that if we don’t feel something there can be no authenticity in doing it. But the wisdom of God says something different: that we can act ourselves into a new way of feeling much quicker than we can feel ourselves into a new way of acting. Worship is an act that develops feelings for God, not a feeling for God that is expressed in an act of worship.” - Eugene Peterson

Passionate, God focused, full-on praise is a powerful tool against Satan.

  1. Worship is acknowledging who God is.
  2. Worship opens the door for the miraculous to happen.
  3. Worship draws us closer to God.

Psalm 100:1-2

Psalm 66:1-2

Psalm 149:3

Psalm 150:1-3

Conclusion

Maybe you're a naturally reserved person, and the thought of passionate worship makes you very nervous. It's okay. Take the first step. Take God at His word and watch what He does!

Key Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

[14] if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
