Reopening Walk-through

Latest Update 17th September 2020

Due to new local lockdown restrictions in the RCT area, coming into force Thursday 17th September, we are asking all those who don't live in RCT to please refrain from attending our in-person Sunday services until further notice. You can still join us every Sunday at 5pm for Church Online. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Please know that we are praying for you and are here for your if you need anything.

Hi Church, it’s Pastor Luke 👋

On Friday 10th July, the Welsh Government and Assemblies Of God UK gave Churches the go-ahead to reopen and gradually resume their services.

We are excited to announce that we are now reopen for in-person worship services!

You will need to sign up to attend our Sunday services using the form at the bottom of this page.

As we reopen things are going to look and feel different from what we are used to. In order to keep everyone safe, we are doing everything we can to align with the guidelines set out by the Welsh Government and public health Wales. This includes a full risk assessment which will be carried out before reopening. Following Welsh Government guidelines we will be gathering in groups of 30 people or less, preparing areas for proper social distancing and cleaning areas before and after use. As the number of COVID-19 cases decrease we’ll see additional allowance for more of us to worship together and the opportunity to reopen other ministries. Remember, these changes are temporary!

All attendees, volunteers, and leaders, are encouraged to use their discretion as to whether they will attend in-person opportunities. Those who are in high-risk categories due to certain health conditions or, those who have received a shielding letter from the Government, may want to consider refraining from attending in-person opportunities for the time being. Also, you may be over 70 years old and are feeling fit and well, but we would still encourage you to talk it through with your family before deciding to come.

For the safety of all those attending our in-person services at Gateway, the following people should NOT attend:

  • Those who feel ill, have a fever, or show any symptoms of COVID-19 (click here to view symptoms list from the Welsh Government).
  • Those who have tested positive for COVID-19 and have not been cleared by a doctor.
  • Those who live with or have come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last two weeks.

For those who don’t feel comfortable attending services yet, we completely understand. Until you are comfortable we will be recording our service and posting it online at the beginning of the week. Please know that you will be missed.

For those who do feel comfortable attending, below are all the details you need to know and what you can expect.

Service Times

Gateway Church Cymru will have 2 Sunday service options. Services will be approximately 1 hour in length (less exposure to each other). We encourage those “most at risk” who want to attend, to attend the 1st service due to less risk of surface exposure. Shorter services will also allow for disinfecting of surfaces between services. Here are our new Sunday service times:

  • 9:30am
  • 11:00am

Doors will be opened for the service 10 minutes prior to the service starting.

Please sign up for the service by completing the form at the bottom of this page. Due to the fact we can only facilitate services with limited numbers because of social distancing, we would kindly request your first choice service and second choice service to enable us to plan accordingly. Please note, we cannot guarantee you first choice. The time allocated to you will then be the service time that you will attend for the foreseeable future. Please let us know if you cannot make it by the Saturday before at the latest. We greatly appreciate your understanding in this matter.

F.A.Q

ENTERING THE BUILDING

As you enter the building, you'll receive a smile and wave instead of a handshake by our welcome team.

Upon arrival you will be asked by a member of the welcome team to answer some questions about COVID-19 symptoms for track and trace purposes.

In order to help you feel safe, we're removing all of the normal stuff you may be used to touching: no newsletters, connect cards, iPads, etc. and replacing them with hand-sanitising stations.

Will there be sInging?

Following the advice given by the Welsh Government and public health Wales, sadly, there will be no congregational singing at this time. However, we will listen to some worship songs.

how many services can i attend?

Following the Welsh Government and public health guidelines, a maximum of 30 people can join together in the church sanctuary for our worship service. Therefore, we are asking that people only attend 1 service to accommodate others.

Do I have to sign up?

YES! Due to attendance limits, we need individuals, couples and families to reserve the number of seats (spots) they need as well as the service they plan on attending. This will then be the service time that you will attend for the foreseeable future. You can sign up by completing the form at the bottom of this page.

Are we following social distancing guidelines?

The main sanctuary and minor hall have been reworked to insure social distancing guidelines of 2 meters. As you make your way to the welcome area, a welcome team member will seat you at a location appropriately distanced from others. Dismissal will be done row by row by Pastor Luke at the end of the service. If you would like to chat and socialise with one another, we ask that you would please do so outside the church premises where you can assure a safe distance.

Do I have to wear a mask?

YES! Due to the new information from the Welsh Government on Friday 11th September, as of Sunday13th September onwards, it will be the church policy following the Welsh Government guidelines that all who attend Gateway Church Cymru will be required to keep their face covering on throughout their attendance in the building. This does not apply to those who are exempt by Government guidelines.

Are things kept sanitary?

Exterior doors will be opened for you by greeters with face coverings or face shields. All interior doors will be propped open to avoid touching surfaces. Hand sanitisers will be available in the welcome area.

Cleaning teams will wipe down surfaces to disinfect before and after services with the appropriate disinfecting agents.

Toilets will only be available for emergencies.

No handbags, coats, or any items to be placed on chairs not occupied

Are things going to look different?

For a while, yes. Here's a breakdown of what to expect:

Tithes and Offerings

Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity as a church oversight to thank all those who have set up online giving over these last few months. We’d also like to thank all those who have set their gift aside ready to give when we come back to together.

With regards to giving as we move forward, we would continue to encourage everyone to use online banking if you are able to. This helps to reduce the risk for all involved in sorting out the offerings. Please get in touch with us here for the details on how to set this up.

If you are unable to/prefer not to give via online banking, the offering plates will be placed at the back of the church at the end of the service.

Communion

Communion is a vital aspect of our services. However, due to the risk, we will be unable to provide communion as a church. Therefore, we are asking everyone to please bring their own bread and juice so that we can celebrate together what Jesus has done for us.

Newsletter & Connect Cards

No paper newsletter or connect cards will be distributed. First time attendees will be able to go to the welcome area where the person at the desk will take their information and share about our church and how to get connected. Prayer requests can be given to us in-person, or here on our website.

What about my children?

All children’s ministries will be closed for the foreseeable future (including Tots, Kids Club and Kids Zone).

A children’s activity pack will be available in the welcome area to help keep children occupied during the service. There will also be videos, activities and resources on our Gateway Kids Online web page.

We ask that all parents look after their children during the service to respect the social distancing guidelines. Thank you.

What does this mean for church online?

Church Online is here to stay! We are so thankful for the way that we’ve been able to minister to people and share the Good News of Jesus during this season using our website and our social media platforms. Our hearts desire as a church is to continue to develop our online ministry to complement our in-person ministry. Our prayer is that many more lives will be impacted by the gospel as we do this.

We look forward to seeing many of you soon. For those who aren’t ready, we understand. In the meantime know that we’re praying for you and looking forward to seeing you when you are ready.  If you have questions feel free to get in touch with us here.

Every blessing,

Pastor Luke
