You may have heard the word “gospel” before—maybe in a church service or a song. But what does it actually mean?
The word “gospel” simply means good news. And it’s the best news you’ll ever hear.
Here’s the Good News
God created you for relationship. But sin broke that connection. We’ve all gone our own way—turned from God—and the result is separation from Him.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
—Romans 3:23 (NLT)
But the good news is this: God didn’t leave us lost. He sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue us.
Jesus Did What We Couldn’t Do
Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again—defeating sin and death. Because of what He did, we can be forgiven and made right with God.
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
—Romans 5:8 (NLT)
This isn’t about being religious or trying harder. It’s about trusting in what Jesus already did for you.
You Can Be Made New
The gospel isn’t just about going to heaven one day. It’s about new life right now. When you turn from sin and put your faith in Jesus, God forgives you, fills you with His Spirit, and gives you a brand-new start.
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
—2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
How Do I Respond?
You don’t earn the gospel—you receive it. And you respond by saying yes to Jesus.
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
—Romans 10:9 (NLT)
That’s the gospel: Jesus died and rose again to save us—and through Him, we can be restored.
Final Thought
The gospel isn’t just information. It’s an invitation.
Not to religion, but to relationship. Not to try harder, but to trust deeper. Not to clean yourself up—but to come just as you are.
Jesus has done everything. All you have to do is say yes.
