It’s one of the most important—and sometimes most difficult—questions people ask about Christianity: Why did Jesus have to die?
The answer is both deeply personal and beautifully powerful: Jesus died so we could live.
Our Problem: Sin and Separation
God created us for relationship with Him. But sin—choosing our way over God’s—broke that relationship. It brought guilt, shame, and separation.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
—Romans 3:23 (NLT)
God is holy and just. He can’t ignore sin. But He’s also full of love—and He made a way to bring us back.
God’s Solution: A Perfect Sacrifice
In the Old Testament, sacrifices were made to cover sin. But they were temporary, and they couldn’t change the heart.
That’s why God sent Jesus—His Son, perfect and sinless—to take our place and pay the price once and for all.
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
—Romans 5:8 (NLT)
Jesus didn’t die as a victim—He gave His life willingly, out of love for you.
The Cross Is Where Love and Justice Meet
At the cross, God’s justice was satisfied—and His mercy was poured out. Jesus took our punishment so we could receive forgiveness and new life.
“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God.”
—1 Peter 3:18 (NLT)
The Resurrection Changes Everything
Jesus didn’t stay dead. Three days later, He rose again—proving that sin and death were defeated.
Because He lives, you can have hope, forgiveness, and eternal life.
“Everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
—John 3:16 (NLT)
Final Thought
Jesus died for one reason: you.
To bring you back to God. To take your place. To give you life, hope, and a fresh start.
His death wasn’t the end of the story. It was the beginning of yours.
